Google Gemini Desktop to Get Full Access for Files, Apps and Computer Control

Brief

Google is reportedly testing a hidden Gemini Desktop setting that could give its AI agent broad control over a Mac, including access to files outside connected folders, interaction with native applications, and network connections without prompting for every action.

The capability remains unreleased, and Google has not publicly confirmed a rollout schedule or the model that will power it. The feature was spotted in a recent Gemini Desktop build under a hidden setting called “Additional sandbox options.”

Its warning dialog indicates that enabling the option would expand Gemini’s operating permissions beyond the desktop app’s existing, more limited sandbox.
