Microsoft Teams’ New Policy Lets Admins Automatically Block Meeting Bots

The tech giant confirmed that Microsoft Teams will soon let administrators automatically block identified external meeting bots from entering meetings, closing a gap that automated notetakers, transcription tools, and AI assistants have exploited for months.
The change, detailed in Microsoft 365 message center notice MC1459141 published on August 21, 2026, gives IT teams a decisive new lever to validate meeting participants.
Teams already has the ability to detect meeting bots and flag them to organizers and administrators, part of a bot-identification system Microsoft began rolling out earlier in 2026 using behavioral and infrastructure signals to distinguish bots from human participants.
