Your Digital Forensics Degree Is Already Outdated. Now What?

Brief

An expensive checkbox

Unless you are subsidized or earned support somehow, a degree can be a financially expensive and time consuming checkbox. It can get your application past a screening filter. It can give you structure, vocabulary, discipline, and exposure to concepts you might not have learned without experience.

For some jobs, especially government, corporate, and management-track roles, the degree may be the checkbox that lets you apply.

Let that sink in. You can’t even compete without a degree for many positions or promotions, regardless of whether you are competent (and your competitors are not).

The person with a degree often treats the degree as the correct path because that is how they got in. The person without a degree often treats experience as the correct path because that is how they got in. Both are right and wrong at the same time.
